Shoo-Fly Pie Recipe

 

INGREDIENTS

Bottom (liquid)

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 tsp. Baking soda
  • 1 egg (beaten)

Top (crumb mixture)

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/8 cup shortenting
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • Pastry for 1 (9") crust
  • Dissolve soda in hot water

DIRECTIONS

  • Dissolve soda in hot water and add molasses and egg.
  • Combine sugar and flour and cut in shortening to make crumbs.
  • Pour 1/3 of the liquid into an unbaked crust.
  • Add 1/3 of the crumb mixture.
  • Continue to alternate layers, putting crumbs on top.
  • Bake at 375degrees for approximately 35 minutes.
  • Makes 1 (9" or 10") pie.
